YOUR VILLAGE HALL IS NOW MORTGAGE FREE 😀

Hunsdon Village Hall Management Committee are delighted to announce that the 25 Year £100,000 mortgage that was taken out in 2010 to fund the extension & refurbishment works has been paid off in full 9 years early.

For those who didn’t live in the village back in 2009 you may not appreciate the project that the committee at that time took on.  Fundamentally the hall needed new toilets and improved facilities to make it a viable village hall.  To fund the works a huge fund raising effort was undertaken, however it became apparent that there was a need to also borrow a substantial sum to cover the works. This was achieved through a mortgage on one of the adjacent cottages which are owned by the village hall.  The committee successfully applied for a mortgage in 2010 and the bulk of the project was undertaken and completed by 2011.

Back in 2010 it was a huge leap of faith by the committee at that time to take out a £100,00 loan, equivalent of circa £170,00 today. We know they were very scared to do it, but without those brave people, the village hall would not be what it is now and that in itself has helped achieve paying the loan off early by generating income.

To generate the funds needed to pay off the loan numerous fund raising events were organised, including the annual fete, a Summer Ball which was held for a couple of years, jumble sales, quizzes, along with huge donations from separate events organised and held by village organisations. These included the Pantomime by Quintessence, plant sales by the Gardening Club, car washes by the Scouts, Mother and Toddler coffee mornings etc. etc. 

The village hall committee would like to thank everybody, including, the trustees, organisers and committee members at that time, the helpers and all those villagers who supported all of the fund raising events over the last 15 years which has enabled us to reach this milestone almost 10 years ahead of schedule which has been a fantastic achievement by so many people.

In addition to all of these fund raising events, the village hall also applied for numerous grants over the years which, along with the rental income from the two adjacent cottages, has enabled us to maintain and improve the Village Hall into the tremendous facility it now offers. As a result, the hall can be used for private parties, weddings and all sorts of celebrations and community events, which provide a boost to the income received from hiring the hall to the numerous village organisations.

We hope that all residents and users of the hall enjoy the facility that it provides our community. However, as an ageing building it still takes a lot to keep it going, and now we are debt free we can focus future income on maintaining the hall for future generations.

So in conclusion, a HUGE THANK YOU to all those heroes of the past, present and future who took the risk, provided the support and continue to maintain the facilities, now and into the future.
